In chronic care, technology can play an important role to increase the quality and efficiency of healthcare. But to be successful, healthcare technology needs to be acceptable, usable, and easily integrated into daily life. As a consequence, end-users need to be actively involved in the design process. In the European IS-ACTIVE project, we developed the Activity Coach, which aims to promote an active lifestyle for patients with COPD, by applying visual feedback and real-time motivational cues in daily life. In this paper, we elaborate on the Activity Coach design, involving the end-users, to develop a product that is highly usable and well accepted.
